Tomas immigrated to America with his parents and four siblings, arriving at Baltimore on Dec 7, 1874. The family settled on a farm in Section 23-2-12, Sheridan Precinct, Pawnee County, Nebraska. Tomas was married to Josefa "Josie" Sebek on July 17, 1888, Pawnee County, Nebraska. They were parents of three children: Emma, Thomas, and Bowman.
From the Table Rock Argus, Oct 21, 1937, page 1:
Because of heart trouble, Thomas Svanda, 76 years, 9 months and 26 days old, passed away at his farm Monday, Oct. 18, 1937, near Table Rock. Though born in the old country, he farmed most of his life in the Table Rock vicinity.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at 2:00 o'clock in Kovanda's chapel by Rev. J. A. Runnels and Frank Dobrovolny. Interment was at the Bohemian cemetery east of town.
Survivors are his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Frank Hruska; two sons, Tom Jr., and Bowman.
