Minnie Svanda was born to Tomas and Antonie (Ticha) Svanda at Kuklik #50, Moravia, on Sept. 5, 1855. She immigrated to America in 1874 with her parents and four of her siblings: Franz, Tomas, Ignaz, and Josefa. The family settled southeast of Table Rock, in Section 23-2-12, Pawnee County, Nebraska. She married John M. Johnson on Nov. 10, 1878 at Humboldt, Nebraska. They had five children: John M. Jr., Lou A., William Henry, Frank C., and an unnamed baby who died in infancy.
