M.K. Hurd Dies Of Heart Attack
Before going to press, the Independent received word of the death of Mahonri K. (Hon) Hurd, 80, well known resident of auburn, who died Wednesday evening Jan 7 following a heart attack.
Funeral services will be conducted in the Auburn Ward Chapel Saturday at 1 p.m. Friends may call Friday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Schwab Mortuary in Afton or Saturday morning at Auburn.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan 10 at 1 p.m. in the Auburn Ward Chapel, with Bp. Demar Hillyard conducting, for Mahonri Knighton Hurd, 80, well known early pioneer resident of Auburn and Star Valley, who died Jan 7, 1970 at his home of a heart attack. Burial was in the Afton Cemetery.
He was born Jan 29, 1889 at Afton, Wyo., the son of Mark and Serah Ann Green Hurd. He spent his early boyhood and received his education in Afton, then moved to Grover to work on his father's ranch.
He married Lucy Anderson on July 6, 1910 in the Logan LDS Temple.
In 1920 he moved his small family to Auburn, where he worked in a store. He bought a ranch and made his home there. He worked for the U.S. Forest Service until he retired in 1952
All his life he was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as Deacon's quorum president, Stake Elders Quorum secretary and president, MIA ward chorister in Grover and Auburn Wards, Bishopric counselor in Auburn, MIA Young Marrieds leader, as a teacher in nearly all auxiliaries and organizations, and was ward financial clerk at Auburn at time of his death.
He is survived by his widow; sons and daugh4ers, Mrs Max (Ada) Nelson, Mrs Lloyd (Glenda) Hyde and Jesse A. Hurd all of Auburn, Wyo,; Mrs Jesse (Elvon) Wood, Murray, Utah; and DeLos A. Hurd, Wilder, Idaho; brothers and sister, Serah Dixon, Gooding, Idaho; Arnold Hurd and Serell Hurd, Grover, Wyo. Also surviving are 21 grandchildren 47 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
