Margaret Louise Gladfelter, 97, died Monday, December 8, 2008 at Gettysburg Lutheran Retirement Village. A resident of Country Meadows of Leaders Heights for over three years (7/03-8/06) she formerly resided at 1377 Green Hill Road, York for 65 years.

Born in West York on October 21, 1911, she was the daughter of the late Charles F. and Anna E. (Litsinger) Summers, Sr.

She graduated with honors from West York High School. On June 15, 1935 she became the wife of the late Luther P. Gladfelter at Saint Paul's (Wolf's) Union Church.

In the 1930's to early 40's Margaret worked for the York Ice Machine Corp. (York Corporation) and in the 1960's did contracting work at home for York International. For many years Margaret was an avid "duck pin" bowler and bowled on several teams including the Yorks Elks Auxiliary and Old Timers.

She leaves her two children, a son, Claude C. Gladfelter and wife Joan, of York and a daughter, Phyllis and husband John Crispen, M.D., of Chambersburg; four grandsons, Brett L. Rock and wife Tara of Shippensburg, Paul L. Crispen, M.D. and wife Carlene, of Rochester, Minn., Steven E. Pressel and wife Nicole of Harrisburg and Nathan A. Gladfelter and companion Lora Miller of York; one granddaughter, Ann E. (Crispen) and husband J. Michael "Mike" Chronister of Mechanicsburg; and four great-grandchildren, Zachary E.B. Rock and Emily E. Rock, both of Lancaster, and Joseph L. Crispen and Madison E. Crispen, both of Rochester, Minn. She is also survived by two sisters, Ethel M. Barnes and Beatrice V. Fair; two brothers, Charles F. Summers, Jr., and wife Elaine, and Richard L. Summers, all of York; a sister-inlaw, Hannah Summers of Spring Grove; and by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Clair E. Summers, Sr., and Paul D. Summers.

Margaret was a longtime member and former Sunday school teacher in the primary department of Luther Memorial Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was a life member and for many years a volunteer, of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Victory Fire Company No. 2 and a charter and life member of the ladies auxiliary of the Elks BPO 213 of York.

Burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery.
