Clair E. Summers, 82, of York, died at 6:35 p.m. Saturday at Manor Care Health Services South. He was the companion of Ethel Boyer of York and the husband of the late Ethel M. (Harget) Summers.

The service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Robert M. Goodling Funeral Service, 62 Main St., Seven Valleys. Burial will be in Frieden saal Lutheran Cemetery. Viewing will be 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. His pastor, the Rev. Richard L. Hair, will officiate.

Mr. Summers was born April 15, 1920, in York. He was the son of the late Anna (Litzinger) and Charles Summers Sr.

He was a tool-and-die worker for the former Borg Warner Corp., retiring in 1982 after 42 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II; a member of Friedensaal Lutheran Church, United Auto Workers Region 8 and Shiloh American Legion Post 791; and a life member of West Manchester VFW Post 7374.

Mr. Summers also is survived by a son, Clair E. Summers Jr. of York; five daughters, Nancy A. Ruddisill, Cindy L. Anthony and April L. Kauffman, all of York, and Kay E. Swope of Dover and Linda M. Carpenter of Red Lion; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; three brothers, Charles Summers Jr., Paul Summers and Richard Summers, all of York; three sisters, Ethel Barnes, Margaret Gladfelter and Beatrice Fair, all of York; and nieces and nephews. Mr. Summers was preceded in death by a daughter, Connie M. Summers, in 1949.
