Buford William VanCleave Jr., 73, passed away Friday, Dec. 5, 2008, in Franklin. He was a lifelong resident of Franklin.

He was born July 11, 1935, in Franklin to Buford VanCleave Sr. and Sarah (Beatty) VanCleave. He married Theola (Wilson) VanCleave on May 4, 1957. She preceded him in passing Aug. 11, 2007.

Survivors include children, Demetrius (Linda) VanCleave, Cecilia (David) Livingston and Claude (Carly) VanCleave, all of Franklin, Melissa (Carlos) Young of Dallas, Ga., and Stewart Alan VanCleave of Indianapolis; six grandchildren, Aaron J. VanCleave, Eric Michael VanCleave, Alissa Thomas, Ashaya Young, Trevor VanCleave and Cammie VanCleave; a great-granddaughter, Aubrey Marie Runyon; four brothers, William VanCleave and Lenny VanCleave, both of Franklin, Lester VanCleave of Connersville and Charles VanCleave of New York; and five sisters, Delores Moore of Franklin, Beatrice Davis of Rushville, Felicia Jones of Syracuse, Delores Tanner of Kokomo and Doris Dowdy of Indianapolis.

He was preceded in passing by his parents, Buford and Sarah VanCleave.

He attended school in Franklin.

Buford was an assistant parts manager for Alderman Ford in Indianapolis and Smart and Perry Ford in Greenwood. Since 1971, he had been employed by Matlock Ford in Franklin as parts manager.

He was a member of Second Baptist Church in Franklin. He restored Mustangs and enjoyed classic cars. Buford was a good family man and enjoyed his children, grandchildren and great-grandchild.

The Rev. Irvin French will conduct a celebration of life service at noon Tuesday at Flinn & Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 N. Morton St., (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 11 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin.
