Buford VanCleave Dies At Capital
Buford W. VanCleave, a resident of Franklin for many years, died suddenly at his home in Indianapolis at 907 E. 11th st. Thursday morning. The body is being returned to Franklin to the Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home. The time and place of the funeral will be announced later.
Mr. VanCleave was born December 1, 1902 the son of Mr. and Mrs. William VanCleave. He was married to Sarah Beatty in 1935, was a member of the Second Baptist Church, and was a graduate of Franklin High School.
Survivors include the widow, and their six children, William Carl, and Lester Allen, who are in the military service, Buford Jr. of Franklin, and Beatrice, Felicia, and Lindley, all of Franklin.
Others surviving are two brothers, Lawrence of Franklin, and Whitney of Alabama; two sisters, Frances of Indianapolis, and Lucille; three children by a previous marriage, Doris Dowdy, Deloris Tanner, and Charles VanCleave; and fourteen grandchildren.
Indiana State Board of Health Certificate of Death No. 58-034369 for Indianapolis Marion County records that Buford W. VanCleave, black male, age 55y 10m 22ds, a laborer and married {to Sarah Beatty], died about 11:55 pm on 23 October 1958 at 907 E. 11th St. in Indianapolis. The cause of death was "Valvular Heart Disease." He was the son of William VanCleave, birthplace unknown, and his mother was unknown to the informant, William VanCleave. He was buried at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin Johnson County.
