He was born Jan. 21, 1913 in York to Claude Sr. and Lulu (Bennett) Pickrel. Claude attended Liberty School District 58 and was a 1931 graduate of York High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on Jan. 28, 1942 and went overseas on Dec. 5, 1943. He served at the Ordinance Base at Tewsbury, England and was honorably discharged Nov. 4, 1945. Claude was married to Doris Ehlers on Oct. 27, 1949.
Claude was employed by the former Consumers Public Power District in 1949, then for Nebraska Public Power District as sales supervisor, retiring on Feb. 1, 1978, after which he spent many years in sales and volunteer work.
Claude was a 50-year member of the York Masonic Lodge #56 A.F. & A.M., life member of the Order of DeMolay, member of the Royal Arch Masons and member of American Legion Bolton Post #19. He was a past member of the Sertoma Club, York Elks Lodge #1024 and Toastmasters.
He is survived by his wife, Doris, of York and his daughter, Jeannie Pickrel of Lincoln. Also surviving are his sister, Betty Kupper of Ogallala, nephew Russell Pickrel of Phoenix, Ariz., and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents and three brothers, Raymond, Russell and Robert.
