Hickory, N.C. - Mary Brackett Turner, 76, of 2350 Fifth Ave., NW, went to be with her Lord on Saturday morning, Nov. 29, 2008.

She passed away peacefully with family at her bedside. Born Jan. 3, 1932, in Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Louella Morrison and Alston Roosevelt Brackett.

She was a graduate of Piedmont High School and a 1977 graduate of the CVCC nursing program. After working in local hospitals, she settled in long-term care, where she gave more than 20 years of service to the N.C. Lutheran Home.

She brought smiles to many people with her loving care.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Rickey Clay Turner of Spartanburg, S.C., and a brother, Dick Brackett of Charlotte.

She is survived by her husband, Herman Clay Turner of the home; two sons, Ronnie K. Turner of Taylorsville and Jimmy L. Turner of Hickory; two daughters, Sherry Reitzel of Newton and Jackie Sawyer of Hickory; three brothers, Bill Brackett of Mount Holly, Gene Brackett of Shelby and Jimmie Brackett of Polkville; a sister, Norma White of Gastonia; four grandchildren, Christel F. Setzer of Hickory, Cody J. Turner of Lynchburg, Va., Joseph Reitzel of Newton, and Andrew Turner of Spartanburg, S.C.; and one great-granddaughter, Kendall L. Setzer of Hickory.

Mary was a lifelong Lutheran and was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hickory. After retiring from nursing, she continued to do volunteer work at local hospitals, where that contagious smile will be missed.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008, at Bass-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, with the Revs. Stanley Stiver and Al Mullen officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home two hours prior to the service.

Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Cleveland County.
