Gene Harlon Brackett, 81, of Shelby, died Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at Willow Ridge Nursing Center in Rutherfordton.

Born February 21, 1930 in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Alston Roosevelt Brackett and Louella Flora Morrison Brackett. He was retired from the Waste Water Treatment Plant for the City of Shelby as a superintendent. Mr. Brackett was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lawndale, DAV and VFW. He served in the US Airforce and also served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jimmie Brackett and Dickie Brackett and a sister, Mary Brackett Turner.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Betty Lou Mullikin Brackett; daughter, Deborah Brackett Edwards and husband, Danny of Shelby; brother, Bill Brackett and a sister, Norma Brackett White of Gastonia; also surviving are nieces and nephews

The family will greet friends immediately following the service

Graveside: Friday at 2:00PM at Rose Hill Memorial Park, Fallston.

Officiating: Rev. Cecil Buff and Mr. Fred Towery
