Effie HODKINS was named Zeffa Vida HODKINS at birth. She was born 16 May 1901 at 9:00 p.m. in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Territory to William McCoy HODKINS and Mary Matilda (KELSEY) BACON GRISSOM HODKINS (later MOWREY SUTHERLAND). It is important to note here that records throughout most of Effie's life indicate her birth year as 1898, making her appear 3 years older than she actually was. Her tombstone will forever reflect the 1898 date. Her real birth year was discovered in her mother's Bible, including the time of day and her older brother is clearly recorded to have been born 6 December 1898, just 6 months after her celebrated birth date.

Effie spent much of her growing up years with her father's sister Jane and Jack Zeigler in Ralston, Oklahoma as her parents had separated. She met Joe CRAWFORD when she went to visit her father, William McCoy HODKINS, in Shaw, Colorado. Her father was living with his daughter from a previous marriage, Lillie (HODKINS) PETERSON.

Effie married Jasper Orcemus "Orrie," "J. O.," "Joe" CRAWFORD on 31 Jan 1918. See her husband Jasper Orcemus CRAWFORD for a listing of their nine children.

Following her husbands death in 1952 she worked as a bookkeeper for her son Raymond's Addington & Crawford Drywall business and later her son-in-law's Mullins Drywall business. For many years prior to her death she lived in a trailer house behind her daughter Nita & Nyal Mullins' home in SE Portland.

She died at Providence Hospital, Portland, Oregon. She was survived by all nine children, as well as 32 of her 35 grandchildren...Marsha (CRAWFORD) MYERS, Doug CRAWFORD and Melanie CRAWFORD having predeceased her due to accidents. One great grandson John Lee CRAWFORD also predeceased her.
