He married Elsie Louise MAPLETHORPE in 1947. To that union were born 5 children (4 sons and 1 daughter) and Ray adopted Elsie's two sons from a previous marriage.
Ray served with Merrill's Mauraders in Burma during World War II. He was part owner of two businesses in Portland, Oregon, with Don Addington, Addington & Crawford Drywall and Rose City Building Materials.
Ray died 13 Apr 1999 at his home in Oregon City, Oregon. He was survived by his wife, Elsie, and 6 of his 7 children, 21 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. His eldest son, Douglas, predeceased him, as did one grandchild, John Lee CRAWFORD. Ray and Elsie are buried together at Willamette National Cemetery.
