Funeral Services Monday for Mrs. Dorathea Martens

Mrs. Dorathea Martens, 91, died at 12 o'clock noon Friday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Dorathea Hoare, in Platte Center. She had been bed-fast for the past week.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the home in Platte Center and at 2 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran church. Rev. S. Holstein, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be held in the Zion Lutheran cemetery. The body will lie at the Gass Funeral Home [Columbus, Nebraska] from 11 a.m. Sunday until 4 p.m. when it will be taken to the family home to be until the hour of service.

Mrs. Martens was born May 22, 1857, in Bohmstedt, Germany, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Petersen. She came to America with her parents [father] and one brother in the fall of 1876. The family located in Madison county. [Her father, brother & nephew, (Andrew, Henry and Paul Martensen) along with herself arrived in New York on October 4, 1876.]

[On November 27, 1876], she was married in [Platte County] to Ingwer Christian Martens and they established their home on a farm four and one-half miles northwest of Platte Center. Mr. and Mrs. Martens were one of the first pioneer families in the vicinity of Platte Center.

She was a member of the Zion Lutheran church in Platte Center and a charter member of the Zion Lutheran Ladies Aid.

Survivors include one daughter, Dorathea Hoare, of Platte Center; and one son, Chris of Platte Center; 4 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; one brother, Henry Petersen of Madison; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband and one son who died infancy.

PLATTE CENTER, Neb.--Funeral services for Mrs. Dorathea Martens, 91, Nebraska resident since 1876, were held here Monday at Zion Lutheran church. She died Friday after a week's illness.
Born in Bohmstedt, Germany, she came to America 72 years ago and settled in Madison county. Following her marriage she moved to Platte Center where she has since resided. She was a member of the first pioneer families in this vicinity.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Dorathea Hoare, Platte Center; a son, Chris, Platte Center; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a brother, Henry Petersen, Madison.
