Death of Andrew Petersen
Andrew Petersen, one of the oldest settlers of this county died Thursday night of last week at the home of his son, Henry Petersen, in Fairview precinct, the cause of his death being old age.
He was born in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, in 1817, and served in the war of 1848 in that country. Mr. Petersen came direct to Madison county from Germany in 1880 [1876] and has lived here continuously since that time. His wife passed to the great beyond twelve [fifteen] years ago. He was the father of eight children, six of whom are living. The three sons are Thomas, August and Henry and the three daughters are Mrs. A. Christjohnson [Christiansen] and Mrs. Broder Boyson [Boysen], both live in Madison county, while the third daughter, Mrs. C. Martenson, lives in Platte county.
The funeral was held Sunday at the residence of Henry Petersen and the remains were laid to rest in the Clausen cemetery [now called Crown Hill cemetery]. Rev. Mr. Denninger officiated. Besides the multitude of neighbors, there was a large number, including the Maennerchor, from Madison who attended the funeral.
The bereaved relatives have the sympathy of their large circle of friends.
