Florence A. Spotts, was born May 5, 1896, near Battle Creek, daughter of Henning and Caroline (Behn) Schmidt, and passed away on Jan. 16, 1993, at Horn Memorial Hospital, Ida Grove, Iowa. Services were held at the First Presbyterian Church of Battle Creek with Rev. Benjamin Ray officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Battle Creek, Iowa.

She married Earl Harvey Spotts. He died Jan. 27, 1947. Florence was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Battle Creek, Iowa.

Survivors were 3 daughters, Inez Maxwell of Medford, Oregon; Rachel Hammer of Ida Grove, Iowa; and Beverlyn Schumacher of Ida Grove; a son, Donald Spotts, of Ida Grove; 12 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; and a sister, Elsie Schmidt of Great Falls, Montana.

She was preceded in death by 3 brothers and two sisters.

BIOGRAPHY: Came down with Scarlet Fever 1/18/1902 and had to be quarantined. On the day quarantine was to be lifted, her sister came down with it and they had to be quarantined another 6 weeks.
Flo had a fairly interesting life as she attended Buena Vista college in Storm Lake, Iowa for some time. She lived in Chicago and worked as a haberdasher (hat maker) as well. She apparently enjoyed photographs and had a nice collection at her death including close friends: Julia Gallgher, Evert Holmes, her teacher Ms. Goodwin, and her best friend, Inez Gwen.
