She graduated from Battle Creek High school and from Iowa State Teachers College. After teaching in elementary schools in Iowa, she moved to Great Falls, Montana, where she taught second graders until her retirement in 1961. In July 1998, she moved from Great Falls to the Meth-Wick Community in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, the Retired Teachers Association and the Congregational Church.
Survivors include 4 nieces and 3 nephews; Calvin Goodenow and Ferne Bertelsen of Battle Creek; Roger and his wife, Rebecca Schmidt of Holstein; Rachel Hammer, Beverlyn and her husband, Jim Schumacher, of Ida Grove; Duane and his wife, Maxine Schmidt, of Houston, Texas; and Ruth and her husband, Russell Hess, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
