Louis Walter Bandley, age 89, passed away the evening of October 10, 2008 at Cove Point Retirement Community from causes incident to age. He resided at 588 West 500 North in Provo, Utah at the time of his death.


He was born September 11, 1919 in Provo, Utah; the oldest son of Walter Bandley and Anna Dale Oakley. He received his education in Provo which cultivated his love of numbers, statistics, and finance. During the Depression years, he kept the books for several Intermountain Movie Theaters while yet a High School Student. This experience laid the foundation for an accounting career with Union Pacific Railroad lasting 43 years.


Louis was a true patriot, serving his country in the Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II; achieving the army rank of Master Sergeant, and earning the American Defense Service, and Asiatic Pacific Medals. He also earned the designation of "sharpshooter."


Upon returning home from the service, Louis married Carol Bench for time and all eternity on December 5, 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple. The focus of his life became one of service to God, family and community. He was a faithful High Priest in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving in numerous positions of leadership and responsibility; including many years as an ordinance worker and trainer in the Provo Temple. He was an avid supporter of the Boy Scouts of America. He earned the rank of Eagle, and was later recognized as a "Provo Peaker."


Louis is survived by his daughter Karalue Anderson (Russell) of Rifle, Colorado; Son Rees (Lynn) of Salt Lake City; Daughter-in-law Kristine Bandley of Provo (son Phillip, deceased); Son Fred (Kennen) of Provo; Son Kent (Sue) of Provo; Brother Kay Bandley of Las Vegas, Nevada; Sister Anna Dale Wheeler of Mapleton, Utah.


He leaves behind a wonderful posterity of 18 grandchildren and 25 great- grandchildren. Louis was preceded in death by his wife Carol, son Phillip, parents, sisters Betha and Carol, and brothers Don, Ted, and Grant.


Funeral Services will be held on Friday, October 17, 2008 at 11 a.m. in the Pioneer 4th Ward Chapel located at 376 North 700 West in Provo. Friends may call at the Berg Mortuary of Provo on October 16, 2008 from 6-8 p.m. and at the Ward Chapel on Friday, October 17, 2008 one hour prior to services.
Interment at Timpanogos Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 1050 North 400 East, Orem, Utah, with Full Military Honors accorded.
