Porter county today mourns the passing of its oldest resident, Mrs. Mary McGinley, who reached the age of ninety-nine, after having made her home in this section for a period of seventy-four years.
Mrs. McGinley passed away at the home of J. W. Rigg, of Porter township, Sunday afternoon about 3:30 o'clock. No one was present in the room when she passed away. Her granddaughter, Miss Josie Rigg, who waited upon her, had been in the room about 3 o'clock to see if there was anything wanted. Mrs. McGinley was sitting in her rocking chair with her head resting on a pillow. She was in the habit of spending a good part of the day in this position, sleeping part of the time. Miss Josie noticed she was breathing rather short, but the attendant was not alarmed, as she was subject to such spells.
About 3:45 Miss Rigg returned to the room and found her grandmother in the same position, but the end had come unannounced.
For the past two years Mrs. McGinley has not been able to move without assistance, due to extreme old age.
Mrs. McGinley was the wife of Isaiah McGinley, who preceded her in death twenty-seven years ago. After the death of her husband she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. J. W. Rigg, who also preceded her in death, nearly three years ago.
She was united in marriage to Mr. McGinley, of Knox county, Ohio, on January 28th, 1854. They moved to Porter county in March, 1868, and settled on a farm in Union township, two and one-half miles south of Blachly's Corners, where they resided until death called the husband in January, 1901.
Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. O. E. Oxley, Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, at the J. W. Rigg home. Burial will be in Blachly's Corner cemetery.
