Caleb Leedy was born in Jefferson Twp., Richland Co., OH, the 10th of 11 children to "Pioneer" Samuel and Catharine Elizabeth (Lett) Leedy. Raised as a farmer, he enlisted with Company G, 20th Ohio Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War. Corporal Caleb Leedy died at the Battle of Shiloh, TN.

Caleb Leedy's headstone was a featured scene in Ken Burn's national TV PBS series on the Civil War; chapter 2 - "1862 A Very Bloody Affair."

Caleb Leedy's 1st cousin, Martin Brown Leedy was also killed at the Battle of Shiloh and is buried in the same cemetery.
