PRINCEVILLE -- Robert W. "Bing" Smith, 96, of Lombard for the past four years, formerly of Princeville, died at 3:55 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, 1998, at Beacon Hill Health Center in Lombard. Born May 24, 1902, in Jubilee Township, Peoria County, to George and Emma Harrison Smith, he married Verna A. Calhoun on April 7, 1928, in Princeville. She died May 30, 1984, in Peoria.

Two brothers and two sisters also preceded him in death. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. John (Janet) Tobey of Lombard and Mrs. Ray (Wanda) Conkright of Berthoud, Colo.; one brother, Merle of Elmwood; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

A member of Peoria County Farm Bureau, he farmed in Jubilee Township for many years, retiring in 1968. He was a member of Radnor Grange and Princeville United Methodist Church.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home. The Rev. Rex Hendrix will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Princeville Cemetery.
