Appointed Lt Col of 38th Georgia Infantry Aug 1863 (transferred from 3rd Georgia Sharpshooter Battalion). Captured May 10, 1864 at the Battle of the Wilderness, Virginia. Received at Fort Delaware prison, May 17, 1864. Transferred to Hilton Head, June 25, 1864. Listed as commanding 38th Georgia Infantry when surrendered and paroled (with the Army of Northern Virginia) at Appomattox Court House on April 9, 1865.
