Gladys R. Pate-Simpson
Gladys R. Pate-Simpson, 98 Saco - Gladys R. Pate-Simpson, age 98, formerly of Saco, passed away peacefully Friday night, Sept. 12, 2008 at the Southridge Rehabilitation Center in Biddeford.
She was born one of 15 children in Saco Sept. 6, 1910, the daughter of Wallace and Minnie (Carle) Record Sr. Gladys attended the Biddeford School System and left there at a young age to work to help the family. Mrs. Pate-Simpson worked as a secretary in the Saco-Lowell Shops. She was later employed in the payroll department for the Pepperell Mills. She worked there until her retirement in 1968 as sheeting inspector. Mrs. Pate-Simpson most recently worked for the Board of Voter Registration for the City of Saco.
Gladys was a former member of the E&I Union and the Saco Rebekahs.She was also very active with the Advent Christian Church and the Biddeford United Baptist Church in her early years.
Gladys was pre-deceased by her first husband Douglas Pate, her second husband Roland Simpson; a son Kenneth Pate; a grandson Thomas Pate; her parents; brothers Clayton Record, Arthur Record, Wallace Record Jr., Earle Record, Donald Record, and Leroy Record; and sisters Mildred Danis, Hazel Rogers, and Lorene Harmon. Gladys is survived by a son Robert D. Pate and his wife Clara of Saco, a daughter Pricilla L. Gilbert and her husband Allan of Indian Harbour Beach, Fla.; two brothers Paul Record of North Waterboro, and Herbert Record of Old Orchard Beach, three sisters Doris Kemp of Tipp City, Ohio, June Michel of Forth Worth, TX., and Arlene Coburn of Biddeford; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours are to be held Tuesday from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Dennett, Craig and Pate Funeral Home, 365 Main Street, Saco. A 1:00 PM funeral service will immediately follow at the funeral home. Dr. Rev. Burton S. Howe of the United Baptist Church of Saco will officiate. Burial will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
