Born in Granby, NY, he was the son of Adelbert & Harriet Abbey Keeney. Brother of Hiram C., Hattie (Kinney), Adelbert, Edna (Mellen), Effie (Gifford), Essie (Joyner) Albert, Edwin, Pearl (Potter), Marion Louise & Viola Adell (Jackson) Keeney. He moved at age 3 to Osceola/Redfield area and resided there the rest of his life as a farmer & woodsman.

He married Rena May Fowler on Sept 3, 1906. He was the father of Ralph E., Roy, Bruce, Lettie (Grinnell) & Erma (Chapman), Letha (Dean), Joyce (Hilliker) & Leola (Ewart) Keeney.

Justus J. Keeney, 70, died earlier this morning at the home of his daughter Mrs. Lamont Hilliker, in Redfield. He had suffered a stroke five years ago and another last month.

He was born April 16, 1884 in Granby, son of Adelbert and Harriet Abby Keeney. He went to Redfield with his parents when three years old and had resided there ever since, engaged most of his life in farming and lumbering.

Survivors include his wife Rena, eight children: Mrs. Stanley Dean, Mrs. Lamont Hilliker, and Bruce Keeney of Redfield, Mrs. Robert Ewart of Pulaski, Mrs. Lawrence Dean, Ralph and Roy of Camden, and Mrs. Cecil Grennel of Vienna, 20 grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren, two brothers, George C. Keeney of Redfield and Adelbert Keeney of Pineville, two sisters Mrs. Edwin Millen and Mrs. Edward Roberts, both of Utica.

Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Community Church, Redfield, with burial in Evergreen cemetery Orwell. Friends may call at their convenience at the Hilliker home.
