Demarius was most certainly named for this woman who was the daughter of a Baptist preacher from Dallas County, Alabama. Demarius married Jonathan Low on June 12, 1861 and became the mother of 11 children, 7 of whom lived to adulthood. She died at the age of 38 of measles contracted during pregnancy.
