Velma Mae (Johnson) Harris departed this life July 29, 1975 at Scholtz Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa, making her age 62 years, 5 months and 29 days.

Velma was the daughter of John Christian & Missouri Almeda Caroline (Inman) Johnson. Siblings were: Myrtle (Anderson), Bertha (Williams), Elva (Williams), Beulah (Naney), Mattie (Ireland), Joseph Gurnsey (died at age 13), James, Edgar, and Marshall.

She married Howard Kinne Harris, son of Orsen Rupert and Ruby Ethel (Neagle) Harris, on July 27, 1935 & they had five children: Wanda Louise (died in infancy), Velma Darlene, Joy Del, Rose Marie, & Howard Jr.

She was a member of the West Des Moines Open Bible Church.

Velma was survived by her husband, children, 13 grandchildren, five sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services were held in the First Baptist Church Saturday, August 2 at 2 pm with Rev. Dale Kinder officiating. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery under the direction of Duncan Funeral Home.
