Elvy (Elva) was born to John Christian and Missouri Almeda (Inman) Johnson in Missouri. She had five sisters, Myrtle, Mattie, Bertha, Beulah and Velma; and four brothers, James, Edgar, Marshall and Gurn.

Elvy married John Pearman Williams, son of James Evans and Mary Elvira (Helm) Williams, on July 7, 1925. They were the parents of two daughters, Helen Rodda of Des Moines and Mary Zumbro of Colville, Washington; three sons, James of Des Moines, Winfred (Bill) of Seattle, Washington and Larry of Colville, Washington.

Survivors also include two sisters, Bertha Williams of West Des Moines and Beulah Naney of Escalon, Calif.; two brothers, James Johnson of Houston, MO., and Marshall Johnson of Des Moines; 24 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
