Dominic Allessio
25 October 1915 ~ 30 July 2008

Dominic M. Allessio passed away July 30, 2008 in Spokane, WA. He was born October 25, 1915 in Walla Walla, WA, the son of Frank and Agnes Allessio. Dom's school years were in Walla Walla with four sisters: Vivian, Mary Ann, Angelina and Josephine. Upon completing high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1935. During WWII he fought in both the European and Pacific Theaters. Dom was awarded two Bronze Stars and Purple Hearts for his bravery in action. Dom helped organize the Fairchild Federal Credit Union while still in the service in 1954. He retired in 1958 from the U.S. Air Force. He continued working with the Credit Union and retired after 22 years as Treasurer in 1983. He held numerous executive positions with the Defense Credit Union Council of which he was a Charter Member, Vice President and National Director. He was inducted into the Defense Credit Union Hall of Honors in August 2006. Dom was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Allessio in 1970. His four sisters have also passed on. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Denise Allessio of Spokane; daughter, Rosida Stenholm of California; grandson, Mark (Lisa) Stenholm; great-grandsons, Erik and Evan Stenholm, all of Fremont, CA and grandson, Doug Stenholm of San Jose, CA; numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 6, 2008 from Noon to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, August 7, 2008 at 11:00 AM and will be celebrated at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 428 W. 19th Ave, Spokane. Committal will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, 7200 N. Wall, Spokane. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Heart Institute of Spokane, 44 W. 6th Ave., Suite #110, Spokane, WA 99204 or The Morning Star Boys Ranch, Spokane, WA 99203.
