Son of the late James Riley & Atlanta McFalls Lanning ( Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery, Leicester, NC), Husband of Cora Bessie Crawford. Father of Paul Lanning (Georgia), Ruth Lanning Fortner (Jay), Mildred Lanning Lockridge (Roy), Ruby Jane Lanning Hines (Paul). Predeceased in death by the following children: daughter, Mae; son, James Woodrow; Twins Elsie & Evert, Mary & Martha (all buried at Corinth Baptist Cemetery, Leicester, NC). He was brother to Lura Aurona Lanning Foster; Alice Leona Lanning Parham,(both buried at the Newfound Baptist Church Cemeter in Leicester, NC), and oldest brother J.R. Lanning (burined a Sluder Cemetery in Leicester, NC). Grover was my great-grandfather, the father of my grandmother, Ruby Hines. Ruby was twin sister to Ruth. They were the only surviving twins. My grandmother was the last child of Grover and Cora Bessie's to pass away. She is missed greatly. My mother is Margaret Alice Hines Williams. She is Grandma Hines baby girl. Other children of my Grandmother Ruby include Gerldine Jordan, JoAnn Lemmons, Betty Carol, and William (Billy) Hines. Her oldest son, Paul James Hines passed away two weeks ago. Robert Claude (Bobby) Hines passed away in Nov. 2007. Her two youngest boys, Clyde and Charles. Grandma Ruby's oldest daughter Nellie Jane Dorris Hines died from injuries she received in a fire at the age of eight. My Grandmother often spoke of her parents with great fondness and I learned early in life her parents were godly Christians. I and many other family members are a product of their prayers! Raised in Quaker Home Great-grandad was a very strict man. My mother told me a story of once when he put his name in a drawing at a local store to win a family protrait. Instead of winning the protrait - he won a television and when it was delivered to his home he refused to accept it. Telling the store he would have nothing to do with that toy of the "devil" in his home!
