GEORGE WESLEY MARTIN FAMILY
George Wesley Martin. the son of William and Mary (M.) Elizabeth (Young) Martin. was born November 1, 1849.

After the civil war ended. George Wesley Martin. his widowed mother Mary (M.) Elizabeth Martin. two brothers. Bazely and Joe, three sisters. Harriet. Bell and Caroline. left Johnson County, North Carolina. by covered wagon, They came to Lexington. Tennessee, where George Wesley married Martha Virginia Cunningham.

In 1871, the family started to Texas by wagon train. The Young and Story families, along with other families and relatives joined the wagon train. They came to Lamar County, Texas, where they stayed one year before coming on to Navarro County. Retreat. Texas where they settled and reared their family. Mary (M.) Elizabeth Martin died at Retreat and was buried in Hamilton Cemetery.

To George Wesley and Martha Virginia Martin were born eleven children, nine of whom survived, They were William Jesse, Nora. Dora. Joseph Elijah, Newt, John Robert. Dock J., Roy E., and Martha Virginia (Jennie) . These were all born and reared at Retreat.
