CARROLLTON – Mildred Gilliam Basnight, 82, of Carrollton died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 1997, in Nansemond Point Convalescent Center, Suffolk. She was a homemaker and a member of Benn's United Methodist Church. Survivors include two sisters, Margaret G. Atchison of Alexandria and Lois G. Myers of Hampton; two brothers, Bill Gilliam of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Quincy Gilliam of Logan, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews, including Charles Basnight. A graveside service will be conducted Friday, Jan. 24, at 11 a.m. in St. Luke's Memorial Park, Smithfield, with the Rev. Fred Breeden officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday, Jan. 23, from 7 to 8 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield, and at other times at the residence of Mrs. Mamie G. Turner, 15352 New Towne Haven Lane, Carrollton, and suggests memorial contributions may be made to Isle of Wight Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 97, Smithfield, Va. 23431. Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield, is handling arrangements.
