GALENA, Kan. Howard Lee Barnes, age 72, 1605 Galena Ave., died at 2:25 a.m., Friday, Jan. 23, 2004 at a Galena, Kan. nursing home following an illness.
He was born Dec. 27, 1931 at Galena, Kan. His parents were Henry Franklin and Hazel Berniece (Murray) Barnes.
He was a lifetime resident of Galena.
He graduated from Galena High School in 1949.
He worked for 18 years delivering for Sunshine Bakery in Joplin. Later, he worked for 15 years delivering for Anderson Wholesale. He retired in 1994.
He was a member of Central Christian Center, Joplin, Mo.
His favorite pastime was fishing.
Howard was married to Gale Marie Cupp on Jan. 29, 1951 at Bentonville, Ark. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, John (wife, Joyce) Barnes, Galena, Kan. and Jim Barnes, Reno, Nev.; one daughter, Linda (husband, Doug) Wilkerson, Joplin, Mo.; one brother, Bill (wife, Carol) Barnes, Galena, Kan.; 11 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.
The body was taken for cremation.
Arrangements are under the direction of Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, Kan.
