10 June 1942: Jonas Whitman, well known store proprietor of 15th and Walnut Streets, died suddenly at his home this morning as the result of a heart attack. He was 73 years of age and for many years conducted a small store at the above residence, and was well known to residents of that section of the city. His death came as a shock to members of the family and friends as he arose at his usual time this morning and was engaging in minor chores about the house when seized by the fatal heart attack. He was dead before physicians arrived in answer to a summons. He embraced the Evangelical faith, and fraternally was affiliated with the Lebanon Lodge of the Loyal Order of Mosse and was well known to members of that fraternity. The deceased is survived by his wife, Mrs. Surah Whitman (nee Woomer), three brothers, George, Frank and Harry Whitman, all of Lebanon, and one sister, Mrs. Harvey Kreiser, also of Lebanon.
