Weldon J. Nef, 77, of Burton, Idaho, died May 22, 2008 at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center of heart failure.
He was born Aug. 26, 1930 to Emil and Eva Lenora Johnson Nef in Burton. He attended Burton Elementary and graduated from Madison High School in 1948. He attended Ricks College. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
On April 11, 1952 he married Carol Sue Reed in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They lived in Ririe. He worked for Bud Johnson dry farming. They moved to Independence, farmed on his family farm and raised cattle; he was a partner in the Fogg Butte Cattle Association. He worked at the Rexburg Post Office and retired as superintendent of operations after 29 years.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various church callings including bishopric counselor, stake clerk, ward clerk, elders quorum president, high priest group leadership and home teacher. He and his wife served a mission for 18 months at the Idaho Falls Cannery. He served as secretary on the board of the Texas Slough Canal Company. His family was a very important part of his life, especially his grandchildren, for whom he would do anything.
Survivors include his wife, Carole Sue Nef of Burton; children, Cathryn (Dave) Michaelis, John Nef and James (Margo) Nef, all of Burton, Jeana Nef of Idaho Falls, Connie (Bryon) Parker of Teton, and Louise (Blair) Fisher of Ammon; sibblings, Bernice Curtis of California, Norman (Phyllis) Nef of Burton, Relda (LeRoy) McGary of Rexburg, Belva (Lloyd) Garner of Roosevelt, Utah and Arnold (Leta) Nef of Kaysville, Utah; 20 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Darrell Nef; a sister, Dorothy Smith and a grandson.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, at the Burton LDS 2nd Ward with Bishop John Bidwell officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Tuesday before services at the church. Burial will be in the Burton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations to Primary Children's Medical Center in care of the funeral home.
