At his home in Rigby, Idaho, Friday, June 30, 2006 marked the completion of a life well lived for Darrell "J" Nef, 83. Born in Burton, to Emil and Eva Nef. Married Verna May Bates November 19, 1943 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Attended Burton Grade School. Graduated from Madison High School and Ricks College with an associate's degree, Class of 1943. Faithfully fulfilling his responsibilities throughout his life for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints including bishop of the Leadore Ward, counselor in the Salmon River stake presidency and stake patriarch. World War II Navy veteran, seaman first class. Sailed on the U.S.S. General William Mitchell to Japan and to Guam until completion of his military obligation to his country. Purchased the Frank Dawson Ranch in April 1948. Lifelong love for ranching, remaining active in the operation for 56 years. Served on the South Lemhi School Board, active on various agricultural committees and served as a scoutmaster. Worked hard, fished hard and loved going to the timber, riding his horse, Champ, and camping with his family in between water changes. Took pride in his ranch and family. Eagle Scout.

Surviving family members include: wife, Verna; children: Sharal Lee (Merrill) Beyeler, Barbara Kay (Grant) Thompson, Michael "J" (Karla) Nef, Myra Ann (Delaine) Bowen, and Anthony "B" (Michele) Nef; siblings: Bernice Curtis, Norman (Phyllis) Nef, Relda (LeRoy) McGary, Weldon (Carol) Nef, Belva (Lloyd) Garner, and Arnold (Leta) Neff; 24 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. Predeceased by parents; sister, Dorothy Smith; and grandson, Justin Thompson.
