Baptized Thomas Green Mattingly, 10-08-1869, by Rev. Patrick Cassidy at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Birth date, 7-05-1869, this birth date is also on his marker. Sponsor, Mrs. Brady. Parents: Benedict Mattingly and wife.

The 1900 census shows this couple with four children at home and living in Chicago, Marion County. Appears on the 1910 census for Marion County, Kentucky with seven children at home. The two children shown here without dates for births do not appear on the census and may have left home before 1910 but are believed to have died at birth. The census of 1920 shows six of those seven children at home. Absent was Susan who was likely married by this time. His obituary was sent by Dolores as posted in the Lebanon Enterprise on 3-11-1927.

Thomas E. Mattingly, 57 years old, a well known resident of this city, died at his home on Chandler Street Wednesday morning at 4:30 o'clock of abscess of the lung following influenza. His condition for several weeks had been serious and the end did not come unexpectedly. He had been confined to his bed for six weeks. Mr. Mattingly was born in the St. Mary's section of the county on July 5, 1869, and was a son of W. B. and Susan Wimsatt Mattingly. He, with his family moved to this city some time ago. For several years he, with his son, Charles Mattingly, had been conducting a grocery and grist mill on South Spalding Avenue. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Allie Mattingly, and two sons and five daughters, Charles and Robert Mattingly, and Mrs. Alton Bradshaw, Misses Aline, Gertrude and Cecilia Mattingly of this city and Sister M. Thomasine of Wilhelmina, Mo. He is also survived by three sisters, Mrs. Johnnie Mattingly and Mrs. Tom Mattingly of this county and Mrs. George Ballard of Akron, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at St. Augustine's church this morning at 9 o'clock by Rev. J. A. Hogarty and burial will be in St. Charles Cemetery at St. Mary.
