SAM GOLTRY FUNERAL HELD HERE TUESDAY
Samuel Tobias Goltry was born January 22, 1859, near Russell, Iowa, on a farm which is now part of his homestead, when he departed this life October 13, 1935, after a lingering illness. He was the son of John and Barbara McGill Goltry, both of whom were among the early pioneers of Lucas County and he learned early in life of the hardships of pioneer times.
On March 11, 1885, he was united in marriage to Mary Isabelle Allen and this union was blessed by one son, Everett, who has remained with his father almost constantly during his long illness.
Mr. Goltry was a progressive farmer and took great pride in the development of both the land and the livestock he kept on it. He was always interested in the affairs of his community and state and kept abreast of the times in civic and political affairs.
He and his faithful wife celebrated their Golden Wedding last March in their home and it is notable that forty of the fifty years of their married life was spent in this home. With the exception of one year in the Greenville neighborhood, his entire life was spent within sight of his birthplace, a record acheived by few.
While yet a young man, he united with the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and he lived and died in that faith.
Besides his wife and son, there are left to mourn their loss, four brothers and six sisters; Mrs. Ollie West of Belgrade, Neb., Dr. Chas. F., John and Fred of Russell, Joe of Kenosha, Wisc., Mrs. Arvilla Simpson of Villisca, Mrs. Winnie Copeland of Omaha, Neb., Mrs. Jennie Fluke of Osceola, Mrs. Clara Dahlman of Des Moines and Mrs. Myrtle Pepper of Chariton.
Largely attended funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Presbyterian Church conducted by Rev. W.P. Mitchell and interment was made in the Russell Cemetery.
