JOHN GOLTRY

John Goltry was born near Tyrone, Steuben county, New York, on May 19, 1831, and died at Russell, Iowa, April 4, 1910, aged 78 years, 10 months and 15 days. He was the son of Nathaniel and Elizabeth Goltry, and at the age of seven years moved with his parents from Steuben county, New York, to Jennings county, Indiana, in the fall of 1838, at which place he resided until 1855. March 22, 1855, he was married to Barbara J. McGill. In the fall of the same year, 1855, he with his wife moved with his yoke of cattle, settling on a farm in Cedar township, Lucas county, Iowa, and has ever since lived in Lucas county with the exception of one year spent on his farm in Missouri. In 1873 he united with the Christian church at LaGrange and has since lived a consistent and conscientious Christian life.

He leaves a wife, five sons and six daughters, one daughter, Alda, having preceded him to the spirit land. He also leaves two brothers and one sister and other relatives and friends to mourn their loss. Funeral services were conducted Thursday at the Christian church by Rev. A. E. Beals. Interment in the Russell cemetery.
