A funeral service for Rubin Charles Brown of Montrose will be at 11 a. m. Tuesday in the Montrose Valley Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Lloyd McMillan officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p. m. Monday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Olathe Cemetery. Mr. Brown died Friday in Veterans Affairs Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He was 74. Mr. Brown had been a heavy equipment operator, an auto mechanic and a night marshal. He had been a resident of the Olathe and Montrose areas for 47 years. He was born June 29, 1920 to James Richard and Ollie Lovelace Marrs Brown near Springdale, Texas. He spent his childhood in Texas. He married Doris Evelyn on May 3, 1992 in Montrose. She survives. He was married to Minnie for 45 years. She is deceased. Mr. Brown had lived in Texas, California and Colorado. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, the operating engineers organization and the National Rifle Association. Mr. Brown was a disabled veteran who served in the U. S. Army in World War II. He enjoyed dancing at the senior center, hunting, fishing and his horses. Other survivors include a son, Lee Richard of Grand Junction; a daughter and son-in-law, June L. and Duke Hitchcock of Grand Junction; a brother and sister-in-law, Howard Harold and Bonnie of Kellerton, Iowa; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Anna Mae and Lester Lane of Teague, Texas and Hazel and Jerry Sanders of Arkansas; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A son, R. Charles; a daughter, Janet; two brothers, James and Curtis; and a sister, Ruby Lee Adams, are deceased.
