George Edward Claiborne, 77, of 1813 Fawn Drive, died Friday, November 7, 2003 at his home. He was born in Hopkinsville, KY, a son of the late James Johnson Claiborne and Katherine Trimmer Claiborne. A member of First Baptist Church, Mr. Claiborne retired from the Daviess County school system. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and received a discharge from the U.S. Air Force in 1957 with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. He was the first football coach at Daviess County High School, coaching from 1954 to 1964, during which time he was also the track coach. In 1990, the football field at Daviess County Middle School was named in his honor.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, two sons, a granddaughter, a brother, and two sisters.
