Elizabeth Claiborne, 75, of Christian Health Care Center, died at 7:15 p.m. Monday at the health center after a long illness.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. James McKenzie officiating.

A native of Hopkinsville, she was born May 23, 1913, the daughter of the late James J. and Katherine Trimmer Claiborne. A former Sunday School teacher at First Baptist Church, she had taught at Virginia Street School for several years before teaching chemistry in several universities. She was the first chemistry professor at Hopkinsville Community College where she was also the sponsor of Phi Theta Kappa Sorority, of which she was a member.

Survivors include four brothers, James Claiborne, Cadiz; George Claiborne, Owensboro; Jerry Claiborne, University of Kentucky football coach, Lexington and Keith Claiborne, Hopkinsville; and four sisters, Mrs. Marion (Wilma) Garnett, Hopkinsville; Mrs. James (Jane) Warren, Merritt Island, Fla., Mrs. Ira (Clarice) Massey, Lexington and Mrs. C. M. (Carolyn) Eastwood, Lafayette, LA.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of memorials to First Baptist Church.
