Ralph A. Izatt passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2008 in Provo after a short but valiant battle with cancer. He was born October 13, 1924 in Afton to Ira Deloss and Annie Elizabeth Anglesey Izatt. He was the fifth child in a family of six.
Ralph attended school in both Smoot and Afton and graduated from Star Valley High School in 1942. He went to the University of Wyoming on scholarship.
Ralph only attended college for the fall semester before returning home to get a job and help the family financially. In March 1944 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country as a navigator aboard of the USS Lander.
Ralph married Verla Walton on February 23, 1949 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Together they raised four children.
Ralph was hired as an engineering technician by the Soil Conservation Service in 1950 and through engineering correspondence courses, he was assigned to the area office staff as assistant area engineer.
He spent a lot of time in layout, design and installation of irrigation sprinklers and headgate projects. It was a great joy to him in his later years to drive through the valley and see all of the irrigation sprinklers in operation.
After his retirement in 1984, Ralph and Verla became snow birds and spent wonderful winters with their friends in Apache Junction, Arizona.
Ralph and Verla served LDS missions in Nashville and in the Chicago Temple. In 1994 they were called as ordinance workers in the Mt. Timpanogas LDS Temple until Ralph's health declined. Ralph has served in many church callings including, teacher, ward clerk and high councilman.
Ralph is survived by his wife, Cora, one daughter, Eileen (Chad) Burton; and three sons Brad (Diane); Len (Chris); and Eddie (Stacee); three stepdaughters, Kathy (John) Poulsen; Patty (Nolyn) Johnson; and Sandy (Kevin) Davis; and two step-sons, Ron (Vicki) and Paul (Mindy) Jacobsen; 13 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 25 step grandchildren and 31 step great grandchildren; and one sister, Wilda Hatten.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Verla; his parents; three brothers, one sister; one step-son and one grandson.
