Funeral services for Verda Louise Leavitt were held on Tuesday, December 2nd at 12 p.m. at the Schwab Mortuary.
A viewing was held the same day from 10:30-11:45 a.m. at Schwab Mortuary prior to the services.
Verda Louise Leavitt passed away early Thanksgiving morning 27 Nov 2003 at her home in Afton. She was the sixth and last child born to Ira Deloss and Annie Elizabeth Anglesey Izatt. Verda was born the 25 Nov 1930 in Smoot.
When she was 17 years old she married Gilbert Wayne Anderson of Wheatland at the Court House in Paris Idaho. Wayne had come to Star Valley with the Gilpatrick Construction Company to crush rock. The gravel pit they were working in was close to Verda's home. Wayne and Verda had one daughter Ronda Gaye and Verda was pregnant with their second child Kathryn when they divorced in the spring of 1949. Verda then married Bryan Leavitt the 17 March 1950 in Afton. To this union were born seven more children.
In the early 1950's Dr Worthen was training woman to become nurses. Verda was on of 10 that applied and got her L.P.N. license. She was a wonderful nurse and she was respected for that. She was especially good with the expectant mothers and the new babies.
After the death of Bryan she moved to Smoot with her cousin Elray Allen and took care of him until he died. She then married Ned Shurtleffon the 23 Nov 1993 in Las Vegas Nevada. They spent summers here in Star Valley and winters in Loma Linda, Calif. and Salt Lake City. Ned died the 19 Aug 1998 in Salt Lake City at this time she came back to Star Valley and lived out the remainder of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers Howard, Clifford and LeRoy. Three children twin boys Sammy and Danny Leavitt and one daughter Nancy Joy Wright Suter.
She is survived by her children Ronda Gaye Allred, and Brett Leavitt of Afton, Kathy Walker and Shaun Leavitt of Auburn, Carol Ann Long of Mt View and Tena Williamson of Nederland Texas.
Surviving siblings are Wilda Hatton of American Fork Utah and Ralf Izatt of Auburn.
