Joe Price's father was named Homer and his mother was named Libbie (her name from 1892 Census for New York State Steuben County Town of Erwin). She was 19 in 1892. Homer was born Feb. 1860. Libbie died between 1892 and 1900. In 1900 Homer was listed as a widower at the age of 40.

Joe had two brothers Harvey born Oct. 1894 and John born Mar. 1898. Homer's parents were John and Olive Price (Orval Price's paternal great grandparents). Homer's siblings were Ella, Ada, and Anna. In the 1870 NY census, John was 35, Olive 28 and was reported to be Canadian, Homer 12, Ada 11, Ella 7, and Anna 3.

It was reported by his son Orval that Joe and his brother Harvey were put on an orphan train with his brother Harvey and got off in Levelland, TX at the age of about 12. Prior to that they were in an orphanage in Corning, NY. Their mother had passed away. Joe was adopted by a family in Texas. He was separated from his brother Harvey for some years. They were reunited later.

Joe was married to Jessie Leora Rains Price at the age of 18. They married in 1911 at Crawford, TX. Joe worked as an oil field driller and farmer. The 1940 census reported he completed 2 years of high school.

According to his WWI Draft Registration Card, 1917-18 he lived in Baird, OK in Cotton Co and was a farmer.

In 1920 they were living Hulen and in Duncan. In 1931 they had been living in Maud. They left there that year and moved to a farm north of Maysville, OK. They lived in Ada for awhile after Maud. Their son Orval went to high school in Ada. They were living in McLoud, OK when Jessie got ill with leukemia. They moved to Stonewall, OK. Joe and Jessie died in Stonewall. Joe died of a tractor accident. It turned over on him and killed him. Jessie died of leukemia.

The 1940 census of Hobbs, Lea, NM on April 8, 1940 showed Joseph and Jesse L. living there and that he was working as a driller's helper in the oil field. I believe this to be temporary emploment since they lived mostly in Oklahoma as adults. It also stated that in 1935 they lived in McClain Co., Oklahoma. I believe soon after the 1940 census they moved back to Oklahoma.

They had 7 children, 4 of whom lived to adulthood--Orval Price buried in Rosedale Cemetery in Ada OK, Wendell Price buried in Highland Cemetery,Stonewall OK, Thelma Price Chambers buried in Chowchilla, California, and Gertie Lee Price Long buried in Memorial Park Cemetery in Ada OK.

Children that died before adulthood were Condon Price buried in Letitia Cemetery in Letitia, Comanche Co. in Oklahoma; Mary Nell Price and Eunice Price said to be buried in Letitia Cemetery it could not be confirmed. Joe and his wife Jessie, brother Harvey Price, daughter Gertie Lee Long and her husband Ray are all buried in Memorial Park Cemetery in Ada, OK. Joe died in a farming accident. His tractor turned over on him and it killed him.

Joe had a cousin Anna M. Murray (Find a Grave #22224256) and her husband Ray A. Murray (Find a Grave #22224261) both buried in Corning, NY. Their son Raymond Robert Murray (Find a Grave #68941636) and wife Ruth Lorene (Ridgdill) Murray (Find a Grave #70887591). Both are buried in Erwin, NY. Anna raised her grandson Charles "Chuck" Dana Murray who married Peggy. Peggy is still alive in 2015. Chuck and Peggy lived in the Corning, NY area.
