Orval (my Dad) was a prominent businessman in Ada, OK. He was a civic leader and active in the First United Methodist Church including teaching 5th grade Sunday School to for several years. He graduated from Ada High School in 1939. He attended East Central University in Ada for 2 years and was a member of Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity. He was a a member and former chairman of the board of Valley View Hospital in Ada.
If anyone could be called "Mr. Tennis" in Ada it was Orval. He played until the age of 85. Orval was largely reponsible for setting up the Ada Tennis Center, and he was President of the Ada Tennis Club for about 20 years. By the time of his retirement he had a whole room of tennis trophies. He donated most of them to Ada High School to be refurbished and reused.
Orval was co-owner of Price & Todd Construction Co. in Ada for several years and in 1957 became co-owner of Witherspoon Finance Co. founded by his wife's father, J.W. Witherspoon. Orval retired April 1, 1999.
While he was co-owner of Price and Todd Construction Co. he and his company built the Kathryn P. Boswell Chapel at East Central University and other buildings and a number of homes in Ada. He built several housing additions including the Orval Price Addition and Dorothy Price Addition.
He was married to Dorothy Elizabeth Witherspoon Price for 65 years. They married Dec. 14, 1941 in Ada at the home of her parents. He is the father of Nancy Allen and Susan Files of Ada, OK. At the present time he has 2 son in laws, 3 grandchildren and 2 great grandsons and a great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by Matthew Alvin Files, his grandson, and his wife Dorothy.
Orval proudly served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the 770th Ordnance Company, 70th Infantry Division during WWII serving in England, France and Germany. He received the WWII Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, EAME Theater Ribbon, and Two Bronze Service Stars. He was in the Rhineland Central Europe Campaign. He had about 20 men under his command. He enlisted in the Army August 27, 1942 and was released January 26, 1946.
I know of at least one man he saved in Germany in WWII. He and his men had been sleeping in a house and Dad heard or saw a German plane fly over. Dad got the sleeping soldier out of the house just before it was bombed.
He is loved and truly missed. His cause of death was Alzheimer's.

(Williams) Rains buried in Duncan Cemetery, Duncan, OK. His maternal great grandfather was Joseph Luther Dunn Rains. His great great maternal grandparents were Wylie B. and Mary A. Williams. Mary's maiden name was Arington.
Orval's paternal grandparents were Homer and Libbie Price of Corning, NY, Steuben Co. Homer was born Feb., 1860. Libbie was born in 1873. By 1900 the NY census showed Homer was a widower at the age of 40. In addition to Harvey and Joe (Orval's father) there was another son John, born in Mar. 1898. Nothing is known of what happened to him since he was a small child.
Orval's paternal great grandparents were John and Olive Price. Their children were Ella, Ada, and Anna. In the 1870 NY census, John was 35, Olive 28 and was reported to be Canadian (I cannot confirm that), Homer 12, Ada 11, Ella 7, and Anna 3.
In the 1892 census, Corning City, Steuben Co., NY, showed John Price 58, as a laborer and married (assumed) to Susan Price 63. Living with them were Homer Price (son) 34, George S. Price 41, Mary Price 20, Minnie Price 13, Willie Price 9, Hallie Linch 1, and Ella Price 37 (daughter).
Orval had 6 siblings, 3 of whom lived to adulthood: Wendell Price (buried in Highland Cemetery, Stonewall, OK), Thelma Price Chambers (buried in Chowchilla District Cemetery, Chowchilla CA) and Gertie Lee Price Long (buried in Memorial Park in Ada OK). Siblings that passed away in childhood were Condon Price (buried in Letitia Cemetery in Letitia OK), and Eunice and Mary Nell Price who were said to be buried in Letitia Cemetery by a reliable relative, but it could not be confirmed with the cemetery, however a new person was working there when I checked. I went on and listed the girls as buried there for now.
