Rev. Green N. Bankston united with the Salem Baptist Church in 1854, then moved his letter to Mt. Zion Baptist Church near Osyka, Mississippi, then to Line Creek Baptist Church near Kentwood, Louisiana. He then went into the organization of Terry's Creek Baptist Church on January 15, 1871. This church is located in Pike County, Mississippi near Osyka. He was licensed and ordained from this church. He was also a farmer as were most of the people in this area at this time. He married Nancy McElveen on May 21, 1856. Parents are John Jacques Bankston and Pheriby (Phoebe) Carter Bankston (buried Dyson Cemetery, Tangipahoa Parish, LA). His father was a soldier in the War of 1812. His grandfather, John D. Bankston, was a Revolutionary soldier and is buried at Dyson Cemetery along with his grandmother, Henrietta (Coates) Bankston. His great grandfather, Jacob Bankston, also served in the Revolutionary War. His maternal grandparents were Samuel and Charity Carter.
