Byron LeRoy Parkinson

Byron was born May 12, 1934, in Rexburg, Idaho. He was the ninth of eleven children born to Sedlie Williams Parkinson and Emma Kate Squires Parkinson.

Byron's family moved a lot in his youth, he attended elementary schools in Rexburg, Edmunds, Territon, and Coltman, Idaho and Orem, Utah before settling in Arco, Idaho. He graduated from Butte County High in 1952. After graduating he went to Alaska and worked for the railroad near Seward. He returned to Arco and worked construction on the Atomic Energy Plant near Arco. He volunteered for the Army and did basic training in Fort Ord, California. He spent 18 months in Germany and enjoyed his military service placing 2nd in his battalion's physical fitness test. Upon return from Germany, he was called to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Oslo, Norway.

Byron's greatest love was his family. He married his eternal companion Louie Clara Quayle in the Idaho Falls Temple on August 5, 1960. They are the parents of nine children.

Byron received an associate degree from Rick's College in 1961, a bachelor's degree from Utah State University in 1963 and a master's degree from BYU in 1973.

Byron brought enthusiasm and positivity to everything he did. He was a doting, loving husband to his sweetheart. Byron also loved playing, and spending time with, his children and grandchildren. He loved to travel the world, visiting numerous foreign countries during his life.

Byron was a devout, lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He taught Seminary in Cedar City, Utah, Bancroft, Idaho, and Brigham City, Utah. As part of his Seminary service, Byron instructed special needs students, homebound students, and provided service to inmates in the Box Elder County Jail. During his career, he influenced the lives of countless individuals. Byron finished his Church Education career directing the Institute at California State University at Northridge.

Byron gave over ten years of joyous service in the Ogden, Utah, Palmyra, New York, and Brigham City, Utah temples. After retirement, he and his wife Clara served two missions in Uganda Africa and Rochester New York.

Byron was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Ted, Leo, Lynn, Ralph and Stan, and sisters Selma Isaacs, Phylis Jenson, Ruby Stewart, and Christine Carroll.
