Rachel Manley was the second of twelve children of Jonathan Manley and Martha "Patsy" Kinslow. She was born on May 23, 1810 near Lucas, Barren County, Kentucky. She married Richard Newman Johnson on April 17, 1851 in Bowling Green, Warren County, Kentucky.

Richard and Rachel were living in McKinney, Collin County, Texas where their first three children were born. They were:
Jonathan William - b. 04 May 1852
Nancy Ellen – b. 13 Feb 1854
Teresa Mae – b. 10 May 1856

They were living on Spring Creek near Weatherford, Parker County, Texas by 1858 where the rest of their 9 children were born. They were:
Sarah Elizabeth – b. 31 Dec 1858
Georgia Ann – b. 09 Aug 1861
Martha Lucretia "Lou" – b. 3 Apr 1863
Rhoda Lee – b. 20 Sep 1864
Phebe Dru Berta – b. 17 Jan 1866
Robert Richard – b. 10 Jun 1867
Joseph Henry Hardin – b. 04 May 1870
Alice Jane Bell – b. 25 Apr 1873
Minnie Rachel – b. 04 Aug 1876.

Rachel Manley Johnson died at the age of 46 years, 3 months and 14 days on September 30, 1878. It is probable that she was buried in the Johnson Family Cemetery in Parker County, Texas along with her husband Richard Newman Johnson.

Georgia Ann Johnson, who married Marion Potter of Mesquite, Dallas County, Texas on November 24, 1889 in Parker County, Texas was my grandmother.
