Charleston Gazette Thur June 21 1962

A St Albans woman was fatally injured Tuesday when a car driven by her son, Alvin Plumley, 48, of St Albans collided with a truck loaded with hot asphalt in North Charleston. The victim, Mrs Marth A Russell, 70, of Rt 1 St Albans, died in Charleston General Hospital about 45 minutes after the accident. She was burried up to her neck in the 285 degree asphalt from the truck which over-turned.
Plumley was admitted to Charleston General for hand burns suffered when he tried to burrow through the asphalt to free his mother.
Service for Mrs Russell will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Koontz Funeral Home at Hamlin by Rev Ray Tormn and Rev Ebb Cummings. Burial will be in Goldsbury Cemetery at Sod.
In additon to her son, she is survived by a brother, Everett Adkins of Sharples; and three sisters, Mrs Esta Mullins of Myra, Tilda Stowers of Culloden and Mrs Lola Whitten of Industry, Pa.
