Howard Leslie Elkin, son of Leslie & Della Hasty Elkin, was born March 20, 1914, in Greene County, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in Estherville, and it was there that he received his early education.
On Feb. 24, 1935, Howard married Florence Hoovel in Estherville. During their marriage they lived in the communities of Estherville, Milford & Spencer, where Howard farmed until 1968.
From 1968 until retiring in 1980, Howard worked for Boggess & Rohlin Construction.
Howard was a member of the Little Sioux Lutheran Church and enjoyed gardening and his dog, Sandy.
Howard married Maizie Rettig on July 3, 1978, in Elk Point, S.D. They lived in Spencer throughout much of their marriage, but had recently moved to Tama, Iowa , where they lived for one year. On March 2, 1988, Mr. Elkin moved to the Emmetsburg Care Center.
Mr. Elkin passed away at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg on March 25, 1988, at the age of 74.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife on July 29, 1967; 1 daughter, 1 grandchild; 1 great grandchild & 2 brothers.
