Lawrence "Larry" Monteith, of Airmont, NY died suddenly on October 10, 2007 at the age of 76. He was born on October 16, 1930 to Felix and Elsie (Fowler) Monteith in Haverstraw, NY. He married Barbara McElroy on April 29, 1956 at the Pearl River United Methodist Church. Larry was self-employed as a tire dealer for 53 years and also worked at Lederle Laboratories in Pearl River for 23 years. He was a lifetime member of the Kearsing Edwards American Legion Post, Pomona, NY and the New City Fish & Game Club, New City, NY. Larry served in the United States Army as a Combat Veteran in the Korean War from 1951-1953 and received the Combat Infantry Badge, the Purple Heart Medal, Korean Service Medal, Bronze Service Star and the United Nations Service Medal. Larry is survived by his loving wife, Barbara. His two sons, Randy and Gregory Monteith, his sisters, Lucille Goebel of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Ann Chmielnik of New City, NY, brother in law, Theodore McElroy and his wife, Diana, of Campbell Hall, NY; sister-in-law, Phyllis Cook of Beaufort, SC and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 14, 2007 at WANAMAKER & CARLOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 177 Route 59, Suffern, NY 10901 from 2-5 and 7-9 pm. The Funeral Service will take place on Monday, October 15, 2007 at 11:00 am at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the F.W. Loescher Veterans Cemetery, New Hempstead, NY In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Make A Wish Foundation of Hudson Valley, 832 S. Broadway, Tarrytown, NY 10591 and High Tor Animal Care Center, Pomona, NY.

*Larry was my land-lord for two years from 1990-1992 when we rented a cottage he owned in New City, NY. All of our dealings with him were very favorable and he was a very kind and honorable man. I was sad to hear of his sudden death. -W.H.
